That's how much I've exhausted in just 2 days. Not to mention a month ago, $150K from my project fund was spent buying a new instrument. It's to prove to the rest of the world that Singapore's not that backwards in terms of research for my collaborative research project of course... At work, I'm allowed to spend money as if there's an endless pool of it. But still, I feel that the money could be put to better use like giving staff quarterly bonus.

Met Mona after sending my Grandma back to Yishun. Headed to AMK McDs for small fries and small Coke. Proceeded to (Thomson plaza??) to pay up my credit card bill, after which we hung out at this miniature park with segments of playground. Hopped on the swing and it wasn't long before we starting feeling nauseous. Sent Mona back to AMK... saw the empty court and decided to shoot some hoops before heading home.

Meet The Brits

The meeting went well. Didn't lose my nerve.... but super bored. Especially at the 2pm seminar... it wasn't really related to what I do but had to be there to show face.. Plus the boss sent out reminder to the whole department to be there... or else... you know what to expect. It's not the first time anyway.

So my meeting stretched from 9.30 till 11.45, after which we brought them on a lab tour. My director's secretary made lunch resevations for 6 pax. (The 2 collaborators, Director, Program manager and the 2 team leaders). Unfortunately, one of the team leader was on half day leave and my boss asked for me to sit in.... wallow.. Anyway, free lunch is all good. Had Pumpkin soup and Sea Bass served on bed of cous cous.. Nice. Saw this Sg actor.. forgot his name but he's that guy from parental guidance... they were filming on the island... no idea why. Ok so over lunch, the collaborators started talking about the in-flight entertainment where they watched '300'. The director, program manager and team leader were all clueless... So I did most of the talking there... heh I guess I'm one of the rare researcher who catches movie on a regular basis.. After lunch, my boss came up to me and asked what's '300' ah? in that canto tone. Hmm forgot what I replied her... I think I said it's like gladiator, except it's not. Almost blurted out the sex was obscene... until I remembered it was my boss I'm talking to.

After lunch, we had the seminar followed by a short project update with one of the Brits. 3.45PM, they left the island. 3.46PM, I was a free child!!!!

p.s: I think they're gonna extend my project.. dammit.

Calming My Nerves

Those of you who know me well enough at work, I tend to get really stressed during teleconference periods... Today, I will be meeting, for the first time, my collaborators from UK. Went through my slides over and over again last night.. but still I'm not sure of what to say. No point looking at them right now... it'll just make me sick. So I've decided to tend to my blog in hopes of calming my nerves. It's working alright.... except I think I'm gonna puke from one too many butterflies in my stomach. I've written on my whiteboard "I'm dressed preppy cos I have VIPs visiting... not because I have an interview..." So when some idiot walks by and decides open his/her mouth to ask, I shall just point to the board. I know... pardon me for being so anti-social. It's just for today.... till 5pm. =)

p.s: can't wait to see the look on the boss' face if she sees the note on my board... ah heck.

Heard on radio a coupla days back that Jay Chou would be paying Singapore a visit for the premier of "Secrets". Yes93.3 also giving out admission to Dragonfly @ St James on 31st July 1pm event with Jay. Thought of Mona right away and helped her sms for a chance to gain admission... The requirement was to wear school uniform to the event and also to send the decoded sms to Yes93.3 for the following:

A quick entry over lunch break

Time for a quick update on what's happening lately....

1. During the island evacuation exercise, a couple of us realised that colleagues from our department who drive (with the exception of myself) were absent from the exercise itself. Found out that they had all left after half day's work to attend a seminar at NUS. This seminar was not made known to the rest of us who remained on the island. Sole speaker was none other than my program manager Prof. T. So fishy... Anyway, the seminar probably lasted till 3pm latest, whereby they wouldn't have to return to work due to the evacuation. The rest of us only managed to leave the island at around 4pm. Smart huh.... Why so 偷偷摸摸...？
2. Been told yesterday noon that I had to prepare some materials to present at Friday's meeting with the Brits (my project collaborators). So last minute... is it really that difficult to notify me at least a week in advance??? Plus yesterday couldn't do much work from the disruption. (we had anticipated the evacuation to be around 2.30pm... they told us to pack up before 2.15... and so I did.) I foresee late nights today & tomorrow... Why do some people get paid so much for doing nothing and rest of us get paid peanuts for doing everything?
3. Haven't been feeling superb physcially... been coughing quite a bit at night... during sleep. Have not had a proper sleep since I got back from Hong Kong.
   
4. My parents will be back soon... It's time for me to pack the house.
5. I need to call Joseph (again...) to rearrange another appointment.

Postponed

My plans on getting inked might be postponed as the mother & sis is back on 30th July. The father back a coupla days later. They'll be staying here till 4th Aug. Which means................ *sian* I'm gonna have to bus it to work again... It's been a long while.....

2.03PM - Preparing to Evacuate!!!

Today's the day where companies (that choose to take part in the exercise) in Jurong Island evacuate at the same time.....!! Yup, the PA system is going to go off anytime now to inform us of the evacuation drill (yes we are going to physically leave the island) Get to go off early today... so tired.. but got dinner plans with colleagues. Farewell cum goodluck-for-knee-operation kinda dinner. Ok I think that's all I have time for. Ciao!

No Holiday In Sight

Getting depressed at work all over again. There's no holiday in sight within the next few months... can die ah. Returned to work today in my disney tee. Am so tired right now.. Looking forward to going home, spending some precious moments with my new found love (read: nintendo wii)

Yup, got my wii for mi bird dae from da parents. Though I had to pay for my own games and the wireless router. Am so-so-so happy with the tech gadgets I've brought back. For the past 2 nights I was able to chat on msn in the comfort of my own bed... played wii till wee hours of the night. Life's good..... until I had to wake up for work. gah.

Ok anybody knows good place to get wii games? Any games to recommend?? So far, I've got a cooking game (Cooking Mama: Cook Off (WII)), fishing game(Fishing Master (WII)), bo liao game (WarioWare: Smooth Moves ), super mario world, and 2 others that I haven't had the chance to try out. I look forward to a fulfilling week ahead =)))

On a different note, I'm only left with 11 days of annual leave... I wanna cry...........................

4.32 PM....

and I'm done with today's work. Been sitting in lab all day sniffing all sorts of solvents and at the same time getting high. I'm surprisingly more productive when I'm high on solvent abuse. (Don't look at me like I'm some crack head... it's not like I have a choice) Still have a tinge of headache from last night's Transformers. But a whole lot better. Have not started packing for HK yet. So much to bring back for the parents...

On another note, Joseph's outta town. (I talk as if I know him personally...) His earliest slot when I last checked on Sat is 25th July.... When I went to visit the first time round, he said 2nd week July.. Man, I better start placing some deposits. Speaking of which, Rae, have you decided what you wanna get? And where you gonna get it done?

Weak Lar....



Caught Transformers at Lido today with Miss BT. All was good until it started giving me headaches. Anyway, my first time at Lido 1. Managed to get nice seats (din have to sit next to strangers) Was a little late cos the carpark at Far East was packed... sprinted to Lido and managed to catch all the trailers.

Ran a list of errands today... picked up Hei-Bee-Hiam from Grandma @ Bishan for my mum, picked up movie tix from Lido, drove down to Liang court to pick up vouchers, bought Penfold Bin 128 for the father, drove to Siglap to pick up 2 tubs of Kaya for parents. Didn't manage to pick up miu miu handbag from cousin, nor did I buy 'super' Kopi-O for them. Shall do that tomorrow or Tuesday.

Public holiday @ HK tml... so envious..........
